Signal path
- InputDrop a chart, a photo of one, a Word file, sheet music or a whole folder.
- ReadEvery chord is placed over the exact letter it was printed above. Sections, key, tempo and CCLI come along.
- TidyOne house style: Bm not BM, no ALL CAPS lyrics, sharps or flats to suit the key, capo shapes if you want them.
- CheckEverything stays editable. Fix a word, nudge a chord a letter left or right, and watch the result update before you download.
- OutputA clean .cho file that Songbook Pro and OnSong can transpose, restyle and put in a setlist.
The tape library: what it reads
Honest about the edges: shop-bought sheet music that is printed as pictures can't be read, and Pages files need exporting to Word or PDF first. Anything read from a photo is marked for you to check.
Seven hundred songs, half of them twice?
Point Chartformer at a folder or a Songbook Pro backup and press one button. It merges the same song saved in three keys, turns PDFs into ChordPro, fixes ALL CAPS lyrics, adds keys, tags each song Worship or Contemporary, and helps you find missing CCLI numbers.
It always makes a backup first, and it never deletes anything. Setlists that used a removed copy are pointed at the kept one, in the key you played it in.
Measured on the maker's own Songbook Pro library, October 2026.
Your songs never leave your computer.
Chartformer runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, there are no accounts and nothing is stored on a server. The only thing it fetches is the text-recognition engine, once, the first time you read a photo.
Free for every muso.
If Chartformer saved you an evening of retyping, you can say thanks. It keeps the lights on and the next features coming.
Payments are handled by Ko-fi. Chartformer stays free either way.
Made by a muso.
I'm Lukas de Beer, a musician in South Africa's Winelands. I play in church on Sundays and at weddings and functions with my duo, and I spent far too many evenings fixing charts by hand. Chartformer started as a tool for my own library of seven hundred songs. Now it's yours too.

Questions
What if it gets something wrong?
Fix it right there. The ChordPro on the right is fully editable: change a word, move a chord a letter left or right with Option (Alt on Windows) and the arrow keys, then download. Anything read from a photo is flagged for you to check first.
Does it work with OnSong?
Yes. OnSong reads ChordPro files directly, and so does Songbook Pro. Chartformer's library clean-up has extra tricks for Songbook Pro backups.
Can I use it on my iPad?
Converting works best on a laptop or desktop, where your files are. Then send the .cho files to your tablet the way you normally import songs.
What about copyright?
Chartformer only reformats charts you already have. You still need the right to use them, for example through your CCLI licence.
Does it need internet?
Only to open the page, and once more the first time you read a photo. Everything else happens on your computer.
Is it really free?
Yes. No limits, no account. Donations keep it going.
